One scale for everyone
Your writing and all 114 Surahs are read by the same standard and given a single grade from 0 to 100. Scripture earns no separate scale — a Surah competes on exactly the same terms as a Shakespeare sonnet, a rap verse, or the paragraph you paste in yourself.
Craft, not agreement
The grade measures how well something is written, never whether the analysis agrees with it. A one-sided, polemical, or controversial piece is judged purely on the quality of the writing.
Substance over sound
The analysis rewards meaning that would survive translation into another language — ideas, imagery, insight, argument — far above sound effects like rhyme or meter that live only in the original tongue. Writing that sounds beautiful but says something plain lands in the middle of the pack.
Length is neutral; the top is earned
A short text is neither penalized nor rewarded for being short. Grades above 90 are reserved for the historically great — a Shakespeare sonnet sits around 96 — and the mere absence of flaws never earns a place there.
What the analysis weighs
Behind the single number, the analysis weighs four things. They aren’t graded separately — they combine into the one grade — but here is what each one looks at:
- Clarity, vocabulary, structure & flow
- Is it easy to follow? Is the language precise and well-chosen, the organization deliberate, the movement from line to line smooth?
- Rhetorical power
- Especially for speeches — does it persuade, land emotionally, and stay with you after you’ve read it?
- Lyrical craft
- For poetry and song — rhythm, rhyme, sound, and imagery working together rather than by accident.
- Originality & insight
- Does it say something fresh or see something deeply, or is it plain and formulaic? This carries the most weight — it is the substance the analysis rewards above pleasing sound.
The terms of the grade
Craft earns the grade — but it does not excuse everything. Points are deducted from any piece that endorses, in its own words on the page, the following:
The more of these a text endorses, the steeper the deduction. The analysis weighs only what the passage actually says — it never reaches beyond the words on the page or borrows from other chapters. Writing that merely portrays these things, or argues against them, loses nothing. Only endorsement is marked down.
The grade
The bar is the Qur’an’s own average
Every one of the Qur’an’s 114Surahs has already been run through the exact machine above — the same AI, the same 0–100 scale, the same rules — and each Surah walked away with its own score. Nothing is blended in and nothing is held back: a Surah’s score is simply what the analyzer returns for its text.
The single number you have to beat is nothing more elaborate than the plain average of those 114scores. Add every Surah’s score together, divide by 114, and that is the bar. Clear it with one surah of your own and you have made A Surah Like It. You have then defeated the Quranic Challenge in Surah 2:23–24.
